This is a distance education seminar put together by
the School of Theology at Sewanee (The University of the South). The
four-year program covers the Old and New Testaments, Church History
and modern theologians, with the goal of preparing members for
greater service within the community.

We help greet visitors and
incorporate new members into our parish. This involves serving
as greeters on Sunday mornings, assisting with New Member
classes, and/or acquainting newcomers with "old time" St.
Lukians and with possible areas of personal ministry through St.
Luke's.

Fellowship

This ministry provides many kinds of hospitality for
our parish and for visiting groups; their responsibilities are
broken up into such things as coffee hour, cooking, baking,
decorating, and serving/cleanup.

Foyers Groups

Groups of parishioners (typically four households)
who meet informally for dinner (or some other meal) at one anothers'
homes during the year. Watch for sign-up sheets.

Golf Tournament

St. Luke's annual golf tournament is is a fund raiser
held each fall in September. Teams compete for the best round, but
also in individual contests and fun events like the "ball toss,"
free kick and other goofy things make this a fun event, not just a
golf event.

Habitat for Humanity

St. Luke's has partnered with 16 other churches in
the Kearney area to help build Habitat for Humanity's "church house"
every two years. Through this effort, St. Luke's provides money,
volunteers, and prayer devotions. Building usually occurs in
odd-numbered years.

Jubilee
Center

Originally started by St. Luke's, this ministry provides services to poor
and low income families within in the Kearney community as well as
transients passing through the region and persons moving into the community.
God's Food Pantry and a clothing center are open Monday through Friday.
Jubilee Suppers are served every Thursday evening from 5:00 to 6:30, and are
open to anyone. To learn more about the Kearney Jubilee Center, contact
Deacon Colleen Lewis or come to the Board of Directors' meetings which are
held at 7:00 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month, in the basement of
the Center (at 2523 Avenue A). To serve as a Jubilee Center volunteer,

Men's
Breakfast Group

Meets in St. Luke's parish hall for breakfast at 7
:00 A.M. each Thursday from September through May. Participants take
turns cooking breakfast. All men are welcome to attend and enjoy the
food and fellowship. This group sponsors the Shrove Tuesday pancake
dinner, a chili- cook off each fall, and other fund-raisers for St.
Luke's as well as other charities in Kearney (e.g. the Jubilee
Center).

Mount Carmel Home weekly.

Oversees the speakers and micro-phones in the church
and buildings. Currently, this ministry also videotapes services for
distribution to parishioners who cannot attend and for streaming
over the web.
